Pricing is per database instance, database or node depending on the database type - see below.
One licence covers an instance, database or node depending on the technology
Database techology | 1 license unit covers | Notes for clustered setups |
---|---|---|
Oracle | 1 Database instance | For Oracle RAC count the number of RAC nodes. |
Microsoft SQL Server | 1 Database instance | For clustered setups count all Primary and Secondary replicas that need to be monitored. |
MySQL | 1 Database instance | For clustered setups count all Source and Replicas that need to be monitored. |
PostgreSQL | 1 Database instance | For clustered setups count all Source and Replicas that need to be monitored. |
MariaDB | 1 Database instance | For clustered setups count all Source and Replicas that need to be monitored. |
IBM Db2 | 1 Database | For clustered setups count all source and target databases that need to be monitored. |
CockroachDB | 1 Node | CockraochDB is a distributed database so you need to count the number of nodes. |
Informix | 1 Database instance | For clustered setups count all Source and Replicas that need to be monitored. |
SAP HANA | Beta (Pricing TBC) | For clustered setups count all Source and Replicas that need to be monitored. |
For Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, MariaDB and Informix we license by the number of active database instances. We define the term instance in our docs.
For IBM Db2 LUW (Linux, Unix, and Windows) we license by the number of active
databases
In Db2, a database is a structured collection of data and objects such as tables, views and indexes.
For CockroachDB we license by the number of active nodes.
In CockroachDB, a node is an individual instance of the CockroachDB software running on a server or virtual machine. Nodes work together to form a distributed database cluster.
For any DR (Disaster recovery) or HA (High availability) instances that are just standing-by ready to take on traffic in the event of a failure of the primary instance, you wouldn't need to buy additional licenses since they are idle most of the time. When they become active, the primary would become idle so the same license would cover both since only 1 is active at a time.
The exception to this would be if you have a cluster where the secondary instances are actively serving the application, maybe in a read-only capacity, then they still they need to be monitored at the same time as the primary and therefore would need their own licenses.
We currently cannot offer monthly pricing, but intend to add this in the future. If that is of interest to you, please let us know via info@applicationperformance.com.
No, you just need to buy one licence per database instance - so there is no need to worry about how big or busy your databases are or how many people you would like to access DBmarlin. Our aim is to keep things simple and encourage the widest possible audience for DBmarlin.
